Fiber Optic Applications and Systems
Optoelectronics and fiber optic principles with a focus on fiber optics and light propagation
in fibers. Course topics include light sources, signal launching and capture, fiber types, fiber
manufacturing, optical detectors, termination, coupling, and splicing of fibers. Students will be
introduced to fiber optic communication and sensors, fiber control devices, optical time domain
reflectometry, fiber amplifiers, lasers. Student must register for the laboratory Fiber Optic
Applications and Systems Lab in conjunction with this course.
