Quiz 1 - Harmonics and Duty Cycle
Given a Rectangular Square Wave with a Period of 8ms and a Pulse Width of 2ms and a peak voltage
of 10 volts, determine the percent Duty Cycle and the third harmonic of the waveform.
Solution:
We are provided with the Period (T) and the Pulse Width (tau); using the formula,
Duty Cycle (DS) = tau / T
DS = 2ms / 8ms
DS = 0.25 x100 = 25 Percent
For the third harmonic calculations:
V3 = (2V(tau) / T)(sin (n pi DS) / pi DS)
V3 = 2(10)(0.25) sin (0.25 pi) / 0.25 pi
V3 = 0.0873 volts
